Welcome to St Catherine's Catholic Primary School

St Catherine's Covenant was launched in October, 2004. The development of our Covenant was the first initiative of the newly formed Parish School Board and involved a year-long process of consultation throughout the school and parish community, to discern and document what was, and what continues to be, important to our community.

School Ruleshttp://www.stcatherinescps.qld.edu.au/news-and-events/Pages/schoolrules.aspxSchool Rules
St Catherine's students have three school rules they are encouraged to practise and display daily:

Self-respect

Treat others with respect

Care for the environment

These behaviours are taught and modelled to the students by staff, student leaders, peers and family members within our St Catherine's community.

In Sport, some sporting examples have been created to illustrate the School Rules clearly. This approach assists in consistently promoting and applying the messages throughout the school.

Welcome back to Schoolhttp://www.stcatherinescps.qld.edu.au/news-and-events/Pages/welcomeback.aspxWelcome back to School
An email from our Principal, Paul Mitchell - Wednesday 12 January 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year and welcome to 2022, it certainly has been an unpredictable start to the year.

My thoughts are with the many members of our community who have been unwell with COVID-19 or who have been isolating due to being household contacts. The impact of the pandemic continues to disrupt our lives, but I hope that you have been able to manage with the love and support of your family and friends.

As you are aware, the start of the Queensland 2022 school year will move to Monday 7 February. This decision has been made based on health modelling showing the peak of the current Omicron wave will occur in Queensland in the last week of January and first week of February.

This delay to the 2022 school term will mean there will be no Alternative Education Provisions (i.e. learning from home) delivered to students from Tuesday 25 January – Friday 4 February.

While it certainly is not the ideal way to start the year, it is important to remember that the health, safety and wellbeing of all students, staff and their families remain paramount during the current wave of COVID-19.

I understand this decision may impact families and I thank you for your patience and understanding at this time. We will be communicating regularly and invite you to contact the school if you have any concerns.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Supervision of children of essential workers and vulnerable students

St Catherine's will provide supervision on-site for the children of essential workers and vulnerable students ONLY. Staff numbers on the school site will be kept to a minimum as no curriculum delivery will take place during this period from Tuesday 25 January – Friday 4 February.

If your child requires supervision at school during this two-week period (as you are an essential worker or your child is a vulnerable student) please advise the school by completing the Survey Form that will be emailed to parents on Monday 17th January.

Students attending on any of these days are required to bring their own food, a water bottle and may wear sun-safe free dress clothes, including closed-in shoes and the school hat. During this two week period parents are asked to use the Year 1 drop-off and pick-up area or park in the Church carpark and walk children in to the Rainbow Courtyard.

Our teachers are highly skilled at delivering the curriculum across the school year and students will not miss out on any essential content due to the delayed start of term. St Catherine's students have shown incredible strength and resilience throughout this pandemic, and they will continue to do so.

Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) will continue to operate as normal unless Queensland Health advises otherwise. This includes OSHC on pupil-free days, including Monday 24 January and before and after school during the two-week period Tuesday 25 January – Friday 4 February.

Please contact Khyati Vora (OSHC Coordinator) on 3349 3938 or 0448 855 640 for bookings.

As usual, the school will be closed on the Australia Day public holiday on Wednesday 26 January.

If a student is unwell

Students are not to attend school if they are unwell, even if they only have the mildest symptoms.

Students who have been unwell are encouraged to seek medical advice and are not to return until their symptoms resolve.

If your child displays symptoms at school, we will immediately ask you to collect them from school.

COVID-safety guidelines

Please remember:

Social distancing is required when dropping off or picking up your child from school.

All parents/caregivers must wear a mask. (Primary school children are not required to wear a mask)

All students can attend school regardless of their vaccination status.

Parents/caregivers can drop off their child/children at school regardless of their vaccination status.

The safety, wellbeing and duty of care of our students and school community remains our top priority. On behalf of St Catherine's, I thank you for your ongoing commitment and co-operation as we start the school year.

Please keep yourself updated through the Queensland Government website for requirements around COVID-19 and any implications they may have on your family, our students and the school community.

While this is not the start to the new school year that we had planned and hoped for, I know our whole community will show the same respect, resilience and flexibility that has been the hallmark of our journey over the past two years.

To our families who are starting their St Catherine's journey this year, I know you will find strength and comfort in these times of uncertainty as members of our wonderfully caring community.

Further updates will be provided leading up to Monday 7 February when students officially start school in 2022.

Hopefully, it will not be too long before we can once again return to school business as usual. Please be assured that our school, as always, remains committed to the health and safety of our students and providing a quality education for your child.

Yours sincerely

Paul Mitchell

Principal
St Catherine's Catholic Primary School Yuggera Country
E | pwishart@bne.catholic.edu.au
