P & F President Message

St. Catherine’s Parent and Friends Association (P & F) is a warm, friendly and energetic organisation of parents like you, who work together through various activities to provide community, social, educational and fundraising activities for the school.

These well-attended events are great fun and a good way to meet other parents and children which forge the lifelong friendships that are made during our formal years at St. Catherine’s.

Coming to P & F meetings is one way of finding out what is happening at the school and of having your opinion heard.

The P & F meetings provide an avenue for:

• discussing topics relevant to school planning, policies and
  educational programs
• participating in the planning and budgeting processes for the school
  community
• sharing information on how P & F funds are raised and spent.

The P&F consists of a volunteer executive committee, committee members and following sub-groups:

• fete group
• class rep group
• craft community group
• travel safe group

These groups communicate to the school community via the school contact, P & F webpage, emails and newsletters.

I extend a warm welcome to everyone within the St. Catherine’s Community and invite you to attend our monthly meetings which are on the 2nd Tuesday of each month (excluding school and public holidays). If you are unable to attend, please forward any concerns and it will be included on the agenda. Meeting Minutes are emailed to you and are also posted on P & F web page.

We hope you will get involved in whatever way you can.

Kind regards
Nick Jeffrey , your P & F President

P & F Activities

Our school relies upon the goodwill and efforts of pupils, parents, family and friends to co-ordinate activities and raise money for school funds. It's the P & Fs’ job to organise and manage these activities, both big and small. But it's not all hard work. We have a good laugh doing the organising, we raise money, and everybody ends up having a great time! We are always looking for new recruits to join our happy band, particularly someone who is willing to take on a role within the
P & F committee or Fete Group, and any others who would be willing to help out, however small.

Welcome Back Night
What a way to start the school year. A great social get together to catch up with other parents. Families form picnic spots on the concrete oval. Children go crazy for some have not seen each other for 8 weeks!! Come prepared in some dancing shoes!

Tears and Tissues   Class Reps co-ordinate two Tears and Tissues events, one for Years 1 – 7 and separate one for the Prep families.    A quiet get together, a chance to have a cuppa and a breather for the first week back at school.

School Disco   This is where the junior and senior primary students get down and boogie at the 2 discos held each year. The disco is broken into 2 time frames:

• Prep to Year 2 (5.45pm – 7.15pm) then
  followed by
• Year 3 to Senior (7.30 – 9.30pm)

They have come dressed in denim and lace, celebrity disco and what ever theme captures the moment!

Fete   Is our major fundraiser, providing funds for resources and equipment and plays a valuable role in building our school community. The highlight of the Fete is the Principal challenge! 2007, we saw Mr Carroll climb the rock wall, 2008 as ‘Sherriff John (Wayne) Carroll’ rode the bucking bull!! The school fete is held annually mid June.

Trivia Night   TBA PHOTO

Working Bees Twice a year on a Sunday morning in Term 1 & 3, the parents, predominately the fathers get together bright and early with their sleeves already rolled up in readiness to provide the much needed TLC around the school.

At times it will be  a new coat of paint for the playground or move some landscaping supplies to the awaiting garden beds.  By lunch time the school grounds look refreshed and ready to take on the wear and tear from our children.

Remember, many hands make light work.

Parent Information Nights   Each year we invite guest speakers to speak to our parents across a broad number of subjects of interest such as cybersafety and literacy skills.

Movie Night   TBA - Photo to come

Class Rep Group    Our innovative Class Representative (Reps) program, established in 2006 has met with enormous success and has greatly enhanced the warm and caring community environment at St Catherine’s. One parent from each year level (from Prep to Senior Primary) volunteers to act as the Class Rep for the year, and works closely with the Class Rep Co-coordinator (a member of the P&F Committee) and other Class Reps.

The Class Reps help to provide families with the chance to meet with other families whose children are learning alongside their own. They bring people together to help to create a community that works together to make school a wonderful experience for our children.  The role and responsibilities of the Class Reps includes:

Feedback from our school families indicates that they greatly value the role of the Class Reps, their practical and emotional support, and their achievements in helping to engender even greater interaction and sense of belonging within the school community.

Craft Group – The Crafty Crew!    The Crafty Crew is a group of parents & grandparents who have joined together, through a love of craft, to support the St Catherine’s school and parish community to raise funds by selling the items they produce. The Crafty Crew meets to share ideas & skills, motivate, to plan and prepare for up-coming stalls. Our meets are held regularly throughout the year at St Catherine's, details are published in the Contact. For further information contact craft group co-ordinator listed below.

Travel Safe Group   Established in 2008 to initially review, identify and implement safe travel initiatives ensuring our children’s safety at all times.

Where do the P&F funds go?
Find out how we choose to spend P&F funds and what they've been spent on over the past few years. Funds raised from various P&F activities and successful grant submissions.

How do we choose what to spend the money on?
First and foremost, it's important to understand that all the money that we raise is raised by the school for the school - it's just our job to help make that happen.

Secondly, the way we spend the money is a direct result of discussion with the principal.

Anyway, as a team we figure out the best way to spend our funds in a way that means the most to the whole school.

Items purchased in previous years
Here's a summary of how we've spent the P&F funds over the past few years.

  • Junior playgound redevelopment
  • Laptop computers
  • Musical instruments
  • Landscaping of large oval
  • Hire of buses for camps
  • Tuckshop refurbishment
