Library Resource Centre

The Library is an educational resource centre for both students and teachers and is an integral part of learning at St Catherine’s. By providing a wide range of up to date reading materials and resources, it aims to develop in the children, an appreciation of literature and enjoyment in reading whilst also providing resources that reflect the current Australian Curriculum.  Co-operative planning between the Teacher Librarian and classroom teachers is undertaken to ensure resources are used effectively and classes enjoy planned lessons in the library ranging from literature appreciation and analysis to learning how to best access electronic resources for research purposes.

Each class has a weekly scheduled borrowing time and the use of a waterproof St Catherine’s Library bag is compulsory for students in Prep to Year 3 and highly recommended for all students.  The Library is open for students during some lunch hours for research, borrowing and quiet reading and in the morning for the returning of books.

Borrowing Limits

Prep to Year 2     -   2 books
Year 3 to Year 6  -   3 books or epublications downloaded using Overdrive

Lost Books

Overdue notices are printed on a regular basis and borrowing rights for students who have books that are long overdue are suspended, until the book is returned or a replacement fee is paid.  Books that are damaged will also incur a fee to cover replacement costs.

Parent Help

Parent help in the Library Resource Centre is always welcome and the school has a lovely tradition of parents who willingly and regularly assist with book covering .  Assistance is also most welcome during our annual Book Fair which is held during Term 3.
